BET Awards Viewers Outraged Over Young Money’s Performance

Every Girl by Young Money

Many BET Awards viewers were outraged when Lil Wayne and Drake were joined onstage by several pre-teen girls during the performance of their hit song “Every Girl“.

Some journalists found the presence of the pre-teens to be a bit strange:

Overall, the show was a big downer because… many things just seemed out of place. For example, Drake’s performance had Lil Wayne and his pre-teen daughter with other young girls on stage rapping along to “Every Girl in the World,” which is a song about having escapades with all the girls in the world. (Examiner)

Others thought Weezy’s song choice was inappropriate in light of Michael Jackson’s recent death:

And then came Lil Wayne, in a five minute flurry of such bad taste and poor judgment one can only assume that he was high or simply confused. He performed his new single “Every Girl“. In light of the somber tone of the evening, the performance would have been gauche enough. But onstage with him at the time were several pre-teen girls, who danced in loose choreography and flocked around Lil Wayne like a prepubescent harem. (City Pages)

Many industry insiders used Twitter to express their disappointment with the performance:

Lil wayne + wanting to f*ck every girl + w/ young girls on stage = smh, pure mess. how did bet miss how inappropriate that was?! (TheSourceMag’s Twitter)

These girls onstage look a littttttle tooooo young to be the subject of this song. could be the red tutu (AngelaYee’s Twitter)

Okay I have a problem! Why are there 12 year olds on stage while Drake and Lil Wayne singing this song!! I as like is that a little GIRL????? and then I was like wait there are more lil kids! HUH?? (TiaMowry’s Twitter)

Drake/Lil Wayne performance really pissed me off by bringing those young 10 year old girls singing I would F ever girl in the world. (IPRMKTG’s Twitter)

Shout outs to SOHH, and what do all you think of this? Did you find it weird or inappropriate how Young Money had these young girls with them? Hit me up in the comments.

  2. I really didn’t like the bet awards they treated it more like a funeral then a celebration. Young moneys performance was good and I fuck with them til the end but the lil girls on stage while singing I wish I could fu%¥ every girl in the world was not a good look. The girls look like little women dancing around grown men yes they might have been their children but still other don’t kno that and that’s not the first thing pol are goin to thing but never the less the did the damn thang but they should plan better

  3. Yeah I thought it was a bit strange too…and the timing could’ve been better with ALL of the songs they performed. But you know what? it’s YOUNG MONEY, what do they have to prove? They already took over the game by storm, so next week they’ll be back in the studio, shuttin down another stage like nothin ever happened.

  4. I’m a wayne fan, but although it was a good performance and good song, I dont think the kids shoulda been on there for a song like that. And it was a tribute to MJ, so it was kinda “different” from the other performances. But BET let it happen so they are to blame. They shoulda performed other stuff, but you cant blame em, cuz MJ died suddenly and it was a change of plans. I dont know any songs that they could do as a tribute to MJ. They just did the songs that are hot right now. That woulda been great if it wasnt a tribute to Mike.

  5. if ya think about it in reality, those girls prolly listen to that song alot anyways and know what all the stuff means. It’s not like they didnt know about that stuff b4. It’s the 21st century. Kids nowadays already know the stuff adults try to keep from em.

  9. twist is 16 ,
they said “i wish i could LOVE every girl in the world” ,
& his daughter was up there .
i think they didn’t do it to make anyone mad .
i think they did it to involve the kids .

  10. i just didnt like how u coodnt listen to either song cuz they tried blockin each swear they thought they were gunna say… lil waynes part was pretty much muted so it was just watchin him move his lips nd walk around in silence lol

  11. I’m a huge fan of Wayne and Young Money, but that performance was one of the worst from him I have even seen.Very bad song choice, considering MJ’s death and the fact that there’s a swear word every two seconds in the song, so almost the whole song was muted out. And the songs playing in the background started too early for Drakes verse in Every Girl, and Birdmans in Always Strapped. I hope to see better performances by Young Money/Cash Money in the future.

  21. I love my black men, I really do. But it really saddens me how truly IGNORANT some of them can be. Look at the grammar of some of you. Why do some of you automatically green light something just becuase someone you idolize does it? Does that make it right? Also, I do not understand, why is it that you guys defend these millionaire celebrities to the death, when some of you would curse your own mothers or sisters? Stop defending these celebrities. Actually, let me rephrase that. Stop defending these SELF-CENTERED vain celebrities that give nothing to our community except to make a a mockery of the “peons” (us, in their eyes). I can appreciate the guys on here that have a legitimate statement. They can appreciate Weezy but at the same time, admit when he was dead wrong. But some of you just defend him on knee-jerk reaction and that just goes to show how sad the state of black america is right now. Monkey see Celebrity, Monkey Do (accept). Please, dont you all think its time to pull the britches up, put some shirts on, and be grown man about your shit. Including your music. Take care of your mothers, your fathers, your families. Fuck these celebrities because in the end, they are just entertainers. Tell you what, instead of defending Lil Wayne, lets defend Obama against all of the backlash he’s receiving as president just becuase he’s black. Lets do that. Tired of these celebrity thugs running/ruining black america…..

  22. Sad thing is, I’m not so upset about what Weezy did, I’m more upset by the manner in which some of you choose to defend him. Cursing and using bad grammar and telling people to suck a dick? OMG. I’m sure there’s a KuKluxKlan Man sittin somewhere lookin at that, and just loving it. As long as we have niggaz like that in the world, whitey ain’t got shit to worry about. We’ll always be at the bottom, looking up to Lil Wayne and frickin, Plies or some crap. Oh how I miss the late 80′s and early 90′s, where are the REAL entertainers and black people in general? Tired of this fuckin ghetto culture. Black people need more class and its not about being white. Our forefathers would weep. Black men on here cussing and disrespecting, just think about how your great grandfather that picked that cotton back in the 1800′s would feel, if he could see what all his backbreaking labor led to. He’d weep…

  27. Talk about a disappointing performance at such a signature point in Black history. During the commemoration of one of our greatest icons came a disgraceful performance that should have not received any of the applause it received that night at the BET awards. The performance by lil wayne and drake was very upsetting, disturbing and should not go over looked, tolerated or supported by way of play on our radios, television stations, or in our night clubs. These are our mothers, sisters, aunts, cousins and nieces that are being exploited, rapped, murdered, kidnapped and tortured on a daily basis. lil wayne, maybe you want to re-up on some of this information before you choose to use lil girls in a song about sexual escapades, with suppose to be grown women.?? Why you think the world would understand you on this is beyond me.??? Brother you must have lost your mind if for any reason you feel what you and your Cash Money Millionaires did can be validated. Lesson to you lil wayne, money doesn’t make a man! drake you’re brand new in the business. You still got lactate behind your ears sitting in a chair like a good ole boy, waving that arm. What the flip was that? People sell their soul every day brother will you? Mr. Referee?

Nothing you can say lil wayne can validate the performance you put on in front of the world. How embarrassing! We don’t have many moments, what were you thinking embarrassing us like that. Not only did lil wayne just embarrass us, he embarrassed us a commemorating moment for the “King of Pop”, Michael Jackson. No respect! Now how would it look for us to support a man that obviously has no respect for people in general, for you and me as women, and what makes it worse he blatantly showed the world that he does not have respect for our children. And I promise you if I ever saw you near my niece……..

Everything should not be ok and everything should not be accepted. lil wayne you lost all respect on this one. I use to listen to your music but now when it comes on, you get’s no play!”

Now when you don’t even care about the life of a child, I have to ask, what type of person are you??? Oh, that’s right, and I quote “I’m an alien.” A sick alien is right! There is no justification for your act, and you lost all respect and points with me.

We as parents let the media into our homes, into our cars, into our children ears and this is what your child is listening to everyday. This is what’s playing on the radio and it is only getting worse and worse. It is up to us parents to monitor what our kids see and hear because it’s crap like lil wayne’s song, I wish I could F@c# every girl in the world that comes on in your car with your kids in it and this is what your little 7,8,9 year old kids are hearing. Music for adults is not music for kids. We should all be better at playing adult music during adult time, not around the kids because this is what they come to know. Then this is what they take to school, where they interact and now a trend of wrong spreads as if it’s right. If you go outside in the neighborhood you can hear lil kids singing it. It’s up to us to make a change. Every individual body has a responsibility and purpose on this earth. What is yours? Don’t let other people raise your kids because if it was up to other people, your kids may be dancing on stage at a lil wayne concert to adult XXX songs.
BET, I will not include you in this insult because I know had you known what lil wayne was going to do, you would have not aired that filth. However, if you are going to run a business, run your business responsibly. You too have a responsibility and money should not let us forget that. As loose as the media is getting, there is still a thing called day time television and I don’t condone child pornography.

“I’m starting with the man in the mirror. I’m asking him to change his ways. And No message could have been any clearer. If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make a change.” MJ

lil wayne since your judgment seems to be a bit foggy, try carrying these lyrics around in one of your note pads!!!!

If we really want to remember Michael Jackson, let’s remember what he really wanted. Love, Peace, Brotherhood, Unity, Change!!!! It’s time for a change ya’ll! Reach one! Teach one! ‘B’

  29. I feel like we should cut lil wayne some slack, Im pretty sure he didn’t mean anything by having the kids on stage during the performance. He probably promised them they could come out, it just so happened, that they came out during that song. I know that he didn’t look at the situation how everyone else did, and i know he wasn’t trying to portray the image that everyone is blowing all out of proportion. YOUNG MOOLAH BABY!!!

  34. Wayne should apologize for writing that nasty song in the FIRST place. His daughter is too young to realize it yet, but she will live to regret being on that stage that night. That was completely inappropriate for the tribute evening and they are fools for being so ignorant and selfish. This was Wayne’s chance to sit down and maybe sing an accapella song but no, he went on autopilot screaming the same nasty crap he always does on stage. Joe Jackson was not impressed I’m sure, and Michael was probably rolling over in his grave.

  35. Drake is a Kanye wannabe. LAME. Find something original to share or go back to your little show on Nickelodeon.
