Lil Wayne Gives Bow Wow & Drake Advice: “Stay Clean”

Lil Wayne gives advice to his Cash Money crew members

Lil Wayne‘s daily prison routine reportedly consists of mundane activities like watching ESPN and chatting on the phone. Despite his seemingly laid-back schedule, the Young Money/ Cash Money leader has cautioned his protégés to steer clear of trouble. Jail is no place for successful rappers, according to Wayne. During a visit to the incarcerated MC, Bow Wow, who joined Weezy‘s camp last year, said Wayne urged him and Young Money star Drake to stay on their best behavior.

“One thing he told me when I went to visit him, he was like … ‘Bow, this ain’t for us, this ain’t it. This ain’t built for cats like us. They don’t understand us, we don’t understand them. Don’t do it man, just stay out of trouble. You and Drizzy, y’all stay clean, y’all stay doing what y’all do. Y’all can do this forever,’ ” Bow Wow told Houston’s 97.9 The Box. “I knew he meant it, [because] Tune never lectures me like that … but he was serious.”

The 23-year-old rapper said that seeing Wayne locked up was a “humbling experience” and recalled hanging with Weezy before his prison stint.

“In our studio, it’s my room … then Stunna’s room then Wayne’s room. I’m so used to seeing the Bugatti pull up, I’m so used to … going over Wayne’s house and the chef is always cooking,” Bow Wow said. “You don’t like seeing your boy like that,” Bow lamented.

Similar to how Wayne doled out advice to Bow, the young rapper said he looks out for another member of the extended Young Money/ Cash Money collective: Nicki Minaj. Bow Wow, who stars in the comedy “Lottery Ticket,” almost scored the hip-hop diva a role in the summer flick.

“To be honest, Nicki was close to being [the character] ‘Nikki’ in the movie. I called Nicki and said, ‘Yo, I think you should audition for this role.’ ” Unfortunately, Bow’s bid to get Minaj some screen time was unsuccessful: The part eventually went to R&B vixen Teairra Mari. “I thought [Minaj] did good, but unfortunately you know how things don’t work out.”

Fans won’t catch Minaj on the big screen in “Lottery Ticket” but Bow Wow said a big tour featuring Weezy’s hitmaking squad will go down once Wayne comes home.

“When he gets out, we definitely plan on this Young Money/ Cash Money tour,” Bow said. “[The tour will feature] myself, Nicki, Drizzy, Wayne and the whole entire family.”

Drake’s “Miss Me” video featuring Lil Wayne debuted Thursday night (August 19) on MTV. The clip starts with a man in a hood standing in an alley. He’s lighting up a Molotov cocktail and throwing it at the wall. The music starts, and we see Drake performing against a white backdrop, but the shot is wide and reveals a black setting as well.

The action cuts to a sexy woman dancing in a room alone, and later we see Drake in that same room, sitting on the floor as the woman shakes it for him.

“Miss Me” has heavy performance scenes throughout Drizzy’s verse, and then we see a TV set in the alley. Lil Wayne appears on the wall in the alley rapping, and he again is shown on the wall in the room where Drake and the girl are, like a projection.

The Birdman and most of Wayne and Drake’s Young Money family appear in the video as well. As the video comes to a close, it’s revealed that Drake was the man in the hood at the beginning of the clip.

“Miss Me” was directed by Anthony Mandler, who has helmed all of Drake’s Thank Me Later videos.

” ‘Miss Me,’ it was something I was so excited to do,” Drake said recently on the set of another Mandler clip, for “Fancy.” “It was something not a lot of people expected me to do, especially with Wayne being in the situation he’s in. We did it as a team, held Wayne down. All the Young Money big dawgs came down — the men of Young Money — to show the muscle, to show we still in full effect. It’s a great piece. It’s darker than the feel of the song. It’s got very much like a youth-in-revolt, rebellious feel to it. I wanted to be aggressive, man. That was my chance to flex my little ‘We did it. We’re still here. Young Money is still in demand.’ And to deliver a message that I feel very strong about. I’m not trying to be the best in the world. I don’t think that’s possible. There’s always somebody better than you. I just hope they miss me, man. So this is it. ‘Miss Me.’ ”

The next video Drake and Mandler will shoot is for “Show Me a Good Time.”

This is the first single from Tygaman’s album Careless World which should come out some time this year or early next year. Gudda Gudda Talks On Lil Wayne’s Time Away

Looking to break past the shadow cast upon him by one of Hip-Hop’s biggest names, Gudda Gudda is on a mission to take his own movement from the mixtapes to the Billboard charts.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Gudda has been running with Lil Wayne since they were both teens—introduced by a mutual friend, the two instantly bonded during their adolescent years and have remained close ever since. But now with Wayne currently serving time for weapons possession, Gudda must do more than ever to keep the Young Money name alive until his comrade returns home.

“I’m almost finished with my Back To Guddaville mixtape and the first single ‘Willy Wonka’ is killing up top radio right now.” Gudda tells VIBE of his Lil Wayne featured track. “I’ve already worked with Waka Flocka, Beanie Sigel and I just did a joint with Brisco. You’re going to see me on a lot collabs very soon. I’m hoping to have my album out at the beginning of next year.”

Although Weezy’s absence can certainly be felt amongst the Young Money crew, Gudda doesn’t feel any added pressure to keep the label afloat. With Drake and Nicki Minaj on the verge of releasing debut albums, the future only looks bright for the entire camp.

“We’ve got a solid line up, Nicki’s killing it, Drake’s killing it… I think we’re going to hold up strong. [Wayne] hears about everybody’s progress and all the moves we’re making. He’s real happy and excited about everything.”

Gudda’s next mixtape, Back To Guddaville, is set to be released later this month and will feature a collaboration with Waka Flocka Flame called “Lock My CEO Up” that the Third Ward native believes will be the biggest of his career. Gudda tells VIBE that he continues to stay in close contact with Wayne despite his incarceration.

“I talk to [Wayne] probably about two to three times a week. I let him know about everything that I’ve been recording and basically, he just tells me to keep going. [Wayne] is behind me 100 percent. He calls me with a lot of ideas and I execute them. I just go in the studio, knock it out.”

Drake Discusses Lil Wayne’s Thank Me Later Appearance [Video]

The plot thickens when it comes to the record “Afrika Bambaataa.” Weeks ago, before he went to prison, Wayne revealed on his “Nino Brown: The Road To Rikers” DVD that he was shooting a video to a song called “Afrika Bambaataa” for Drake. Everyone speculated that the song in question would be part of Weezy’s contribution to Drizzy’s Thank Me Later album. On Monday (April 5) in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, before the start of his Away From Home Tour, Drake told us “Afrika Bambaataa” isn’t his record.

“That’s actually a Lil Wayne song,” he explained. “I don’t know where that confusion came from. I was just on set that day when he was shooting that video. That’s not even my song. I’m not even on it, to be honest with you. Me and Wayne have a song on my album — a song called ‘Miss Me.’

“It’s a pretty straightforward [song],” he continued. “It’s a song about being away from what you love and hoping that when you’re gone, doing you, somebody out there misses you. It goes for Wayne in his situation and it goes for me in my situation, ’cause I’m on the road for I don’t how long right now.”

Drake also revealed that he redid the chorus for Wayne’s song “Single” off of the No Ceilings mixtape. – MTV

Drake: “You Won’t Even Notice Lil Wayne Is Gone. Promise.” [Video]

The pledge is on wax and MP3: On his new single “Over,” Drake raps, “Making sure the Young Money ship is never sinking.” Even though the head of his label, Lil Wayne, is in jail, Drake insisted there’s no way he’ll let the camp slip from its top spot.

“I’m gonna do everything I told him I would do, what I said in the song: keep us afloat till he gets back,” Drake said on the set of his “Over” video. “You won’t even notice he’s gone. Promise.”

Last week, Lil Wayne was sentenced to a year in jail for a 2007 gun-possession charge, but Drake knows his leader will be OK.

“Lil Wayne is a legend,” Drake said. “I could never classify Wayne as victim. He’s too strong to me. Wayne is who he wants to be. People don’t understand. It’s really not an act. Lil Wayne is a character you’ll rarely run across, probably for the existence of human beings. He is that guy. He is Lil Wayne for a reason. He’s a rock star, a visionary, a workaholic. He doesn’t function like anybody I know. He’s a rare breed.

“I don’t think fame really has anything to do with his situation,” Drizzy continued. “We take precautions. All of us do. To be in the public eye and to be envied and have people who hate you and never have met you or have people who love you and tattoo your face on their body and never have met you, it’s an odd feeling for anybody. It’s a rush [for me]. I love it. It gets weird sometimes. So it’s just personal choices we all make. I never felt that threatened. I’m not sure what’s going through his head at the time. But Wayne has a reason for everything, always. I trust in Wayne. I believe in Wayne. He’s gonna be all right.” – MTV
