Despite naysayers’ talk that the duet album between T-Pain and Lil Wayne will never happen, Mr. Pain says the project is very much still alive, just on hold.

“The T-Wayne album, we’re actually gonna wait until he gets out,” Pain said about Weezy’s jail time. “He has so much going on. He has Rebirth out right now. I don’t wanna interrupt that. We just gonna wait until he gets out to really get in on that. We recorded a bunch of songs. But, right now, it’s time for him and his personal shit. We definitely got an album’s worth of material, but it’s only an album’s worth. It’s nothing to pick from. We just got an album. We can put out whatever we feel like and say, ‘Hey, this is T-Wayne’s album,’ or we can actually try to make it good. Like we’re actually trying to make an album and say, ‘This is the good T-Wayne album.’ Rather than just record 12 songs and say, ‘Here you go, motherfuckas! I know you want it. You gonna buy it anyway, just ’cause you think it’s good.’ ”

Pain, who always has a joke up his sleeve or in his top hat, had a lighthearted response when asked what he thought of his supergroup teammate having to go to prison.

“It happens, man,” the singer said. “People go to jail. That’s something he’s gotta go through. I’m happy it’s not fucking 10 years. That’s just something that’s going on. I know his commissary [prison store] is ridiculous. He’s got so much money in his commissary. You think Baby is gonna let him sit up in there and eat Doritos? Wayne got [his food] coming with steaks. … I know what’s going on there.

“Young Money is still there also. He’s in the studio 24/7,” Pain added. “It’s gonna be like Tupac. You still gonna get 1,000 songs from Lil Wayne. You ain’t gonna miss nothing. It’s gonna be like he never went to jail. I’m pretty sure they’re gonna put out a gang of songs. I’m pretty sure they’re gonna do a ‘Free Lil Wayne’ campaign. That’s how it goes.” – MTV

Some good news from T-Pain. I can’t wait to hear stuff from this Free Lil Wayne thing they have going on. Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

As of Monday, rapper Lil Wayne has a new moniker: Inmate Carter.

The platinum-selling artist (real name: Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.), who began his yearlong jail sentence for gun possession on Monday, is facing a lot of new circumstances these days.

The rapper is living among the general population of inmates at the Eric. M. Taylor Center (the facility for sentenced males at Riker’s Island), but he is also afforded a low level of protective custody, due to his public profile.

“Inmate Carter is in a category of housing that we call ‘general population/escort,’ ” a New York City Department of Corrections official tells PEOPLE. That means when he leaves the housing area (his cell or the day room), he will have a captain escorting him at all times.

On an hourly basis, Lil Wayne can decide if he wants to be locked in his cell or locked out of it – for security reasons, inmates are not allowed to freely move between their cell and the common areas.

What else can Lil Wayne expect from the year ahead? The official shared the following details:

• The Day Room
In this common area, which he shares with 19 other inmates, Lil Wayne can watch television, play cards, read the paper or just socialize. Since the day room is within the housing area, he does not have an escort here.

• The Meals
Breakfast is served at 4:30 a.m. Since a number of inmates will be going to court on any given day, the morning starts early for Riker’s residents. Lunch is served at 11, dinner at 4:30 p.m.

• The Clothes

Lil Wayne will wear the standard institutional clothing: Green work shirt and pants, slip-on style sneakers.

• The Cell
His six-by-ten space features a steel cot connected to the wall, a mattress, a sheet, a blanket and a pillow. There’s a sink and toilet in the cell as well, plus his personal property which includes the standard cup, razor, toothbrush and soap assigned to each inmate.

• Outside the Housing Area
With his escort, Lil Wayne can leave the housing area for attorney visits, regular visits (he’ll get two per week with up to three visitors), religious services or jail-offered programs such as one that helps inmates transition back into society. While some inmates have work assignments in and around the jail, he will not because, “then you’d have to send somebody off to escort him every day,” says the official.

• Recreation
One hour per day. The rapper’s facility features outdoor basketball courts.

• The Commissary
Weezy can buy snacks and toiletries from his Commissary account, which friends and family can contribute to online. Reports that he’ll have an ipod are untrue, though he can purchase a battery-operated AM/FM radio and earphones to listen to music.
– People

I’m gonna take a wild guess that Lil Wayne bought a radio so that he can listen to new music on the airwaves. What do you think? Leave your thoughts and comments below.

So far the prisoners love Lil Wayne. He’s a celebrated star and they dig his image, his work ethic, his music. There’s a lot of hype surrounding the fact the he’s not in protective custody (PC), but in general population. But it’s not really a big thing. In prison, they treat all inmates like the next. He does have limited protection, meaning there is someone that stays with him at all times. But because of who he is, this is also the norm. There hasn’t been much activity with Lil Wayne, especially since he’s busy undergoing the processing an inmate goes through immediately upon his incarceration. Paperwork, tests, all that. Tomorrow, they’ll be conducting DNA testing, specifically because his case centers around DNA evidence. The only thing out of the norm is the amount of calls the prison has been receiving from Weezy’s people, hounding them with questions about whether he’ll be forced to cut his hair, and a few weeks ago, what would the situation be with him having all them carats in his mouth (I think that’s why they opted to have that emergency dental procedure). Still, like I said before, in Rikers, they’re not concerned with one’s celebrity status.

A couple of guards have been written up, only because they’ve acted like fans, having more personal interaction with Lil Wayne than is procedure, prolly acting all star struck, which, once again, the system does it’s best to discourage. Me getting this info and writing about it here puts my contact at risk of losing her job. Still, we do this for our culture. For the most part though, Weezy has been pretty quiet, staying mostly inside his jail cell. There doesn’t seem to be anyone, any faction trying to get at him in any harmful way, because he’s new and because he hasn’t violated any of the codes customary to inmate living the prison life. As I was told, it’s too early to determine how the rest of his experience will be, but so far, so good. It’s all in Lil Wayne’s hands. – iHH

I wonder if Weezy is just thinking up music in his head or what. Leave a comment below!

Lil Wayne won’t have to worry about being pestered for autographs in jail. Officials have enacted a no-autograph policy for Weezy while he does his time.

The Correction Officer’s Benevolent Association tells TMZ that a no-autograph policy has been put into effect during the rapper’s stint behind bars. “Lil Wayne is not a celebrity in here,” says the rep.

Although he may be accustomed to a lavish lifestyle, Weezy won’t be getting preferential treatment nor has he requested any at Rikers Island.

Weezy is nearly a week into the yearlong jail sentence he received for a gun-related crime — but he could get out after 8 months if he stays on his best behavior.

Shouts to Rap-Up. So it looks like Lil Wayne is part of the general population? If that’s what he wants then I’m glad, it would beat being alone for 23 hours a day.
On Monday (March 8), Lil Wayne officially began a one-year prison sentence at Riker’s Island for gun possession charges. But with the sentencing being postponed several times prior (due to Wayne’s dental work and then a courthouse fire), it was an emotional ordeal for both his ex-wife Antonia “Toya” Johnson and their 11-year-old daughter Reginae.

“It was up and down, you know. One minute we thought he was going and she’d be sad and then he don’t go,” Toya told VIBE over the phone from Atlanta. “We [were] in New York like two times and we ended up turning right back around because he didn’t go.”

On the day the New Orleans rapper was finally sentenced, Toya and Reginae spoke to him but weren’t at the courthouse to say goodbye.

“The last day he finally went in, we didn’t go, so my daughter was like, ‘I wish I would’ve went.’ It was just too much. I just didn’t want to let her see that again ’cause both times she took it real hard,” said Toya. “So I was like, I’m not gon’ let her go this last time. I’m just gon’ make sure he talk to her ’cause I didn’t know if he was really gonna go. They kept pushing back.”

Wayne and Toya were high school sweethearts who got married in 2004 and divorced two years later. In 2009, Toya and her friend, T.I.’s fiancée Tiny, debuted their BET reality series, Tiny & Toya, the second season of which premieres on April 13.

With Reginae so accustomed to Wayne being available, even despite his busy schedule, Toya said the time away will be difficult, but that the rapper reassured them before going in.

“He just told me to be strong and don’t really trip. Don’t let her see me down,” said Toya. “At first my daughter would see me a little sad and you know kids they react off of your feelings sometimes, so he was just like, ‘Be strong, make sure you take care of her. Make sure she straight and keep her phone on all the times so I can call her. The time is gonna fly by.’

“The whole point of him being in jail is just not good for her—to say her dad’s in jail,” Toya continued. “But at this point it is what it is, and we just gotta make the best of it. I’ma take her to visit him and talk to him and she’ll get through this eight months. It’ll fly by. I tell her all the time, ‘Just call daddy and tell him you love him,’ and he’ll be home soon.”

Bun B has been friends with Lil Wayne since he was a teenager. The Houston legend said having Wayne out of the music game for a year will be a greater loss than people are realizing.

“I feel bad, because I don’t think anything like this has happened in music since Elvis got drafted into the Army,” Bun B said. ” … Let’s just keep it real: Lil’ Wayne is not just the biggest rapper, Lil Wayne is the biggest pop star right now. Maybe Susan Boyle is on his level. But when you talk about music, nine times out of 10, Lil Wayne’s name is gonna come into the conversation. I feel bad for any brother or any sister that’s gotta go to jail. I feel especially bad for a person like Lil Wayne who’s really riding the wave right now. But he don’t have a lot of time. He’s doing it on the Island. As wild and as ill as the Island is, I think at the same time, he’ll be all right. When you in that state jail and you dealing with those lifers, you got a lot of other issues at hand.”

While in jail, Wayne should just focus on serving his time productively and not worry about fellow inmates, Bun said. , Wayne should just focus on serving his time productively and not worry about fellow inmates, Bun said.

“I don’t think it will be smart for him to go to general population,” he said. “A person like Lil Wayne doesn’t have to prove anything to anybody in general population exposing themselves to that yard. It’s not about being real. It’s too many people who have way too much to gain, and [there is] so much he could lose by trying to prove something. … That’s nota good look. … It’s a little bit different when a person like Lil Wayne goes to jail. All we can do is pray for him. Pray for his spirit.”

Bun, who championed his late musical brother Pimp C years ago when Pimp was in prison, said he admires the attitude Wayne’s musical family has in this tough time.

“I just left Miami. People [were] trying to keep their heads up and sprits up while the young man was around, but they are hurting,” Bun said. “One thing I noticed from the Young Money camp is that they’re not being down because of their careers and they’re worried about a co-sign. They are worried about a friend. That’s what I see from Drake, Nicki, Stunna. … These people are concerned about a friend going to prison.”

‘We’ll be waiting for him when he gets back,’ James says.

Now that Lil Wayne has been sentenced to one year in prison, hip-hop’s biggest rock star has left a huge void for his fans, friends and family to fill. Weezy has lined up a bunch of music and videos to tide everyone over in his absence, but it won’t be the same as having the man himself out and about to create something fresh on the drop of a dime during a live performance or appearance.

“I think we gonna miss a certain energy that Wayne has,” Diddy said recently. “The beauty about it is, he’ll be back and hopefully he’ll come back a better person. Whenever we get in trouble, we’re in the public spotlight. So hopefully there’s a lot of kids out there who could learn from any mistakes that we may have put ourselves in, even if we’re not guilty of the crime sometimes. We are human. People have to learn: ‘Make sure you know where you’re going, who you riding with, what the situation is.’ We’re targets. I’m just happy he doesn’t have to do a lot of time and that he’ll be out, and hopefully he’ll use the time wisely and use it in a positive way.”

But Wayne’s appeal translates to all forms of entertainment, including the world of sports. One of the NBA’s most renowned athletes, LeBron James, says he cannot wait for Weezy to make his return.

“[The game] is definitely gonna miss him,” James said. Wayne appeared on the soundtrack to James’ “More Than a Game” documentary last year, contributing to the song “Forever.” “I think we all love his inspiration behind his music, how much time he puts into his music. The game will miss him, but we’ll be waiting for him when he gets back.”

Now that Lil Wayne has been sentenced to one year in prison following several delays, the reality is setting in for his fans and friends. No one in the hip-hop community wants to see Weezy leave, and rappers also realize they need to run tighter ships in Wayne’s absence.

Young Jeezy said he’ll not only miss Wayne’s work ethic and music, but also his friend’s rebellious attitude.

“Wayne, like I like to call myself, is a trap-aholic,” Young Jeezy told MTV News last week in New York, hours before he brought Weezy onstage at Madison Square Garden as a surprise guest during Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 Tour. That performance — which also included Nicki Minaj and Drake — would be Wayne’s last before he went to jail.

“He stays in the studio, he stays working,” the Snowman added. “We’ll definitely miss that. At the same time, we’ll definitely miss what he brings to the game as far as him just being Wayne and doing what the f— he wanna do. We definitely gonna miss that. But it’s just an eye-opener to all of us. Instead of targeting the hustlers and the people trying to make it in the streets, now that the streets is dried up, now [the police] are targeting the entertainers and the athletes, what have you. Real talk, not trying to preach to the choir, we gotta be careful out here. What I mean to my culture is more than me proving a point.”

Diddy echoed Jeezy’s sentiment that police are keeping a very close eye on the hip-hop community.

“I think we gonna miss a certain energy that Wayne has,” Diddy said. “The beauty about it is, he’ll be back, and hopefully he’ll come back a better person.

“It’s evident that nobody’s safe. That’s reality,” Lloyd Banks added about rappers not being above the law, with Lil Wayne going to jail on the heels of T.I. and Gucci Mane. Banks himself has an assault case pending in Canada. “People make mistakes, have poor judgments sometimes, and things happen. Hopefully, all those artists can bounce back from it stronger and use that time [in jail] to be more creative. Come back home and get right back to where they was at. It’s something that’s always been around. We been talking about [rappers going to jail] since Tupac.”

After Lil Wayne’s sentencing Monday (March 8), his family, fans and friends are definitely bummed to see him go.

“It’s f—ed up,” the Game said about his friend and “My Life” collaborator’s jail time. “I don’t like it all. I don’t have one good feeling about it. I’m happy Tip is coming out, but sad that Wayne and Gucci gotta go in. I don’t like to see that. I like for my n—as that co-exist with me in hip-hop to win. I don’t like to see [for example] Fab go to jail just as much as he don’t want to see Game to jail. That sh– is wack.

“As n—as is approaching their 30s, the end of their 30s, and becoming hip-hop veterans and legends, we gotta become a little more wise,” Game continued. “Everybody makes mistakes. I’m pretty sure at this point, Wayne is kicking himself in the ass for the sh– he did. But n—as is fathers, n—as is growing. With age comes wisdom, man. We’ll learn and we’ll get it all together. As long as we stay together, we’ll be straight. This sh– is a brotherhood. Long as we got each other, we’ll be straight.”

Game said he would love to see that solidarity among his peers come to light with everyone joining together to make a positive song with a message.

“We’re a bunch of [guys] from the same country that came from the same struggle, we grew into the same dominance,” the Compton MC said. “Remember ‘Fight the Power’ and ‘Respect Yourself’? … We gotta get back to that. ‘All in the Same Gang’ — when n—as gonna do one of them? On some cool sh–. That’ll be cool. We gotta figure it out. But I don’t wanna be a part if it if the n—as I admire and whose music I listen to is in jail. When Wayne do his six months or eight months and Tip get all the way out and Gucci is out, [we artists] can we really do it. These are the n—as that do it in hip-hop right now.”

Lil Wayne turned himself in to authorities Monday (March 8th) after multiple sentencing delays for a July 2007 gun-possession charge.

A near riot broke out in front of the Manhattan Criminal Court Building when the superstar MC entered, escorted by police and his Cash Money crew. Photographers aggressively angled to capture the last images of the rapper before he was formally sentenced to one year in prison.

Dressed in black jeans, a black shirt and a gray jacket, Lil Wayne made his way in, before Judge Charles H. Solomon sentenced the rapper. The New Orleans native sat next to his lawyer, Stacey Richman, without addressing the court.

After Solomon reminded Wayne of his charges, the rapper firmly nodded that he understood. Police then handcuffed Lil Wayne and he stood up to be taken away.

He paused momentarily before leaving and nodded to Cash Money execs Birdman and Slim, who were present in the courtroom. Just like that, Wayne was gone.

The rapper reached a deal with prosecutors in November to plead out to a lesser deal, and in return, he is expected to be released from prison as early as October. In 2007, Lil Wayne was arrested for attempted gun possession following his first headlining performance in Manhattan at the Beacon Theatre. New York is among the toughest states in the country when it comes to gun-possession laws. In other states, Lil Wayne could have gotten off with a misdemeanor rap and probation. However, in New York, only law-enforcement officials and those affiliated with authorities are permitted to carry firearms. – MTV

Damn… Weezy is in jail for the next eight months to a year, this sucks! Free Weezy!
