‘We’ll be waiting for him when he gets back,’ James says.

Now that Lil Wayne has been sentenced to one year in prison, hip-hop’s biggest rock star has left a huge void for his fans, friends and family to fill. Weezy has lined up a bunch of music and videos to tide everyone over in his absence, but it won’t be the same as having the man himself out and about to create something fresh on the drop of a dime during a live performance or appearance.

“I think we gonna miss a certain energy that Wayne has,” Diddy said recently. “The beauty about it is, he’ll be back and hopefully he’ll come back a better person. Whenever we get in trouble, we’re in the public spotlight. So hopefully there’s a lot of kids out there who could learn from any mistakes that we may have put ourselves in, even if we’re not guilty of the crime sometimes. We are human. People have to learn: ‘Make sure you know where you’re going, who you riding with, what the situation is.’ We’re targets. I’m just happy he doesn’t have to do a lot of time and that he’ll be out, and hopefully he’ll use the time wisely and use it in a positive way.”

But Wayne’s appeal translates to all forms of entertainment, including the world of sports. One of the NBA’s most renowned athletes, LeBron James, says he cannot wait for Weezy to make his return.

“[The game] is definitely gonna miss him,” James said. Wayne appeared on the soundtrack to James’ “More Than a Game” documentary last year, contributing to the song “Forever.” “I think we all love his inspiration behind his music, how much time he puts into his music. The game will miss him, but we’ll be waiting for him when he gets back.”

Now that Lil Wayne has been sentenced to one year in prison following several delays, the reality is setting in for his fans and friends. No one in the hip-hop community wants to see Weezy leave, and rappers also realize they need to run tighter ships in Wayne’s absence.

Young Jeezy said he’ll not only miss Wayne’s work ethic and music, but also his friend’s rebellious attitude.

“Wayne, like I like to call myself, is a trap-aholic,” Young Jeezy told MTV News last week in New York, hours before he brought Weezy onstage at Madison Square Garden as a surprise guest during Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 Tour. That performance — which also included Nicki Minaj and Drake — would be Wayne’s last before he went to jail.

“He stays in the studio, he stays working,” the Snowman added. “We’ll definitely miss that. At the same time, we’ll definitely miss what he brings to the game as far as him just being Wayne and doing what the f— he wanna do. We definitely gonna miss that. But it’s just an eye-opener to all of us. Instead of targeting the hustlers and the people trying to make it in the streets, now that the streets is dried up, now [the police] are targeting the entertainers and the athletes, what have you. Real talk, not trying to preach to the choir, we gotta be careful out here. What I mean to my culture is more than me proving a point.”

Diddy echoed Jeezy’s sentiment that police are keeping a very close eye on the hip-hop community.

“I think we gonna miss a certain energy that Wayne has,” Diddy said. “The beauty about it is, he’ll be back, and hopefully he’ll come back a better person.

“It’s evident that nobody’s safe. That’s reality,” Lloyd Banks added about rappers not being above the law, with Lil Wayne going to jail on the heels of T.I. and Gucci Mane. Banks himself has an assault case pending in Canada. “People make mistakes, have poor judgments sometimes, and things happen. Hopefully, all those artists can bounce back from it stronger and use that time [in jail] to be more creative. Come back home and get right back to where they was at. It’s something that’s always been around. We been talking about [rappers going to jail] since Tupac.”

‘Everybody makes mistakes,’ the Compton MC says of Weezy’s gun-possession charges.

After Lil Wayne’s sentencing Monday (March 8), his family, fans and friends are definitely bummed to see him go.

“It’s f—ed up,” the Game said about his friend and “My Life” collaborator’s jail time. “I don’t like it all. I don’t have one good feeling about it. I’m happy Tip is coming out, but sad that Wayne and Gucci gotta go in. I don’t like to see that. I like for my n—as that co-exist with me in hip-hop to win. I don’t like to see [for example] Fab go to jail just as much as he don’t want to see Game to jail. That sh– is wack.

“As n—as is approaching their 30s, the end of their 30s, and becoming hip-hop veterans and legends, we gotta become a little more wise,” Game continued. “Everybody makes mistakes. I’m pretty sure at this point, Wayne is kicking himself in the ass for the sh– he did. But n—as is fathers, n—as is growing. With age comes wisdom, man. We’ll learn and we’ll get it all together. As long as we stay together, we’ll be straight. This sh– is a brotherhood. Long as we got each other, we’ll be straight.”

Game said he would love to see that solidarity among his peers come to light with everyone joining together to make a positive song with a message.

“We’re a bunch of [guys] from the same country that came from the same struggle, we grew into the same dominance,” the Compton MC said. “Remember ‘Fight the Power’ and ‘Respect Yourself’? … We gotta get back to that. ‘All in the Same Gang’ — when n—as gonna do one of them? On some cool sh–. That’ll be cool. We gotta figure it out. But I don’t wanna be a part if it if the n—as I admire and whose music I listen to is in jail. When Wayne do his six months or eight months and Tip get all the way out and Gucci is out, [we artists] can we really do it. These are the n—as that do it in hip-hop right now.”

Lil Wayne turned himself in to authorities Monday (March 8th) after multiple sentencing delays for a July 2007 gun-possession charge.

A near riot broke out in front of the Manhattan Criminal Court Building when the superstar MC entered, escorted by police and his Cash Money crew. Photographers aggressively angled to capture the last images of the rapper before he was formally sentenced to one year in prison.

Dressed in black jeans, a black shirt and a gray jacket, Lil Wayne made his way in, before Judge Charles H. Solomon sentenced the rapper. The New Orleans native sat next to his lawyer, Stacey Richman, without addressing the court.

After Solomon reminded Wayne of his charges, the rapper firmly nodded that he understood. Police then handcuffed Lil Wayne and he stood up to be taken away.

He paused momentarily before leaving and nodded to Cash Money execs Birdman and Slim, who were present in the courtroom. Just like that, Wayne was gone.

The rapper reached a deal with prosecutors in November to plead out to a lesser deal, and in return, he is expected to be released from prison as early as October. In 2007, Lil Wayne was arrested for attempted gun possession following his first headlining performance in Manhattan at the Beacon Theatre. New York is among the toughest states in the country when it comes to gun-possession laws. In other states, Lil Wayne could have gotten off with a misdemeanor rap and probation. However, in New York, only law-enforcement officials and those affiliated with authorities are permitted to carry firearms. – MTV

Damn… Weezy is in jail for the next eight months to a year, this sucks! Free Weezy!

Below are two pictures from the shoots, it looks like Lil Wayne and T-Pain (or T-Wayne ?) shot a new music video.
Lil Wayne’s sentencing has been delayed yet again. Now, the rapper will appear before a judge on Monday and turn himself in to begin his one-year prison sentence.

The rapper was scheduled to appear in a Manhattan courtroom on Tuesday, but a fire at the New York Criminal Court building delayed his hearing.

This is the third delay overall. The rapper was originally slated to be sentenced last month, but his attorney made a last-minute request to postpone the proceedings in order for Wayne to undergo dental surgery. The judge granted the request and rescheduled the proceedings for Tuesday of this week. But when an unexpected fire occurred Tuesday morning at the courthouse, all afternoon cases were pushed back.

A spokesperson for the Office of Court Administration told MTV News Wednesday morning (March 3) that Lil Wayne’s case has be rescheduled for Monday, March 8.

Wayne is expected to formally enter a guilty plea to attempted gun possession after he and prosecutors reached a deal in the case in November. He will serve a one-year prison term, and it is widely believed that he could be out in as early as eight months later, assuming good behavior. The rapper was arrested in 2007 on gun charges and was facing up to 15 years in prison if convicted. The MC star is expected to turn himself in immediately after his sentencing.

In other states, Lil Wayne could have gotten off with a misdemeanor rap and probation. However, in New York, permission to carry firearms is primarily limited to law-enforcement officials and those affiliated with authorities. The Empire State’s stringent gun laws were originally enacted during former governor George Pataki’s administration.

On Tuesday, with an unexpected extra night of freedom, Wayne surprised fans at Madison Square Garden when he appeared onstage with Young Jeezy during Jay-Z’s headlining show.

Jay-Z has said that Madison Square Garden should be called “The House That Hovie Built,” but on Tuesday night (March 2), Young Jeezy was the one who startled the sold-out Blueprint 3 Tour crowd by pulling the trump card that tore the roof off. The Snowman called out Young Money artists Nicki Minaj and Drake, as well as the label’s CEO, Lil Wayne.

Jeezy came out about 45 minutes into Jay-Z’s set to perform “Real as It Gets.” Hov then turned the reins over to Jeezy, who threw out a few of his street-approved rhymes, like his verse on Shawty Lo’s “Dey Know.” Jeezy told the crowd that his friend Lil Wayne was supposed to go to jail that day, but a courthouse fire delayed his sentencing on weapons charges once again. Jeezy said he wanted to bring someone out to dedicate a record to him. Nicki Minaj then came out and did her verse from “Bedrock.”

After the song, Jeezy told Nicki to stay, and the beat for “I’m Goin’ In” came on. Lil Wayne then emerged from the mini-stage where Jay’s Roc Boys band was playing and jumped on the main stage with Jeezy. The concertgoers — who were already on their feet — gave the New Orleans native a phenomenal response. Weezy’s face lit up as he rapped his verse.

Drake then came out, breaking the night’s all-black dress code by wearing all white instead. The crowd gave Drizzy loud approval during his verse. Young Jeezy closed the song out, and all three men yelled the chorus: “I’m goin’ in, I’m goin’ in, and I’mma go hard!”

“Jeezy, you a real nigga,” Wayne said, saluting the Snowman.

“We with you 100 percent,” Young told Lil Wayne. – MTV

Weezy has at least one more day of freedom. Lil Wayne was due to be sentenced to one year in prison on Tuesday (March 2), but the Cash Money MC was afforded another day of freedom as the Manhattan court building had to be evacuated when a small blaze broke out in the boiler room.

But Wayne didn’t spend his day seeing the sights or jogging around Central Park — he went back to work. DJ Scoob Doo, who has been traveling with Weezy, posted a tweet asking his followers to figure out what studio the duo would be stopping at as well as which stage they would be hitting.

Wayne’s “Mr. Carter” cohort, Jay-Z, just so happens to be playing the city’s biggest stage, Madison Square Garden — Hov’s Blueprint 3 tour touched down in the Big Apple on Tuesday, along with roster acts Young Jeezy and Trey Songz. We’ll see what goes down — but we can give you a glimpse into how Wayne’s day started.

In another clip sent exclusively to MTV News by Weezy and his trusted videographer, we see Wayne as he learns of his sentencing delay. The clip begins with Wayne stepping off a private jet and walking into a waiting van. Later Weezy leaves his hotel, riding toward Manhattan — while in the Lincoln Tunnel, Weezy’s road manager E.I. informs him there’s been a fire at the court building.

“There’s been a fire in the court. I have one more day of freedom. For now, y’all keep it real, ’cause I will,” Wayne said.

“I’m ready. I’m all smiles,” he continued, pointing to his teeth. “They can’t break my strength. They can only lock me up physically. They can’t lock up my mind. They can’t lock up my heart. They can only take my time because the law allows them to. Time is precious, but love is life. So therefore in the end my love will prevail.”

Updates are available on DJ Scoob Doo’s Web site.

Weezy shot footage for Diddy-Dirty Money’s ‘Strobe Lights’ video over the weekend.

On Monday, Lil Wayne sent an exclusive pre-jail clip to MTV News in which he’s seen before and after filming scenes for Diddy-Dirty Money’s upcoming “Strobe Lights” video at Miami’s Fountainebleu hotel. We caught up with Puff to get some more details on the track.

“On Last Train to Paris, Wayne is on the album, Drake is on the album, we’re trying to get Hov on the album, trying to get Janelle Monáe on the album,” Diddy told MTV News. “Everybody that’s on the album, it’s not done in a regular appearance way. It’s done in a unique way that’s authentic. It’s not about a single or [album sales]. It doesn’t have that behind it. Wayne is on a record that’s called ‘Strobe Lights.’ It’s one of the first records where I hear him talking about love and how love has affected him. That’s the type of things I wanted to get out of people if they were on the album. I wanted people to get out of their comfort zone and do something that was special. He did the video for me over the weekend. ‘Strobe Lights,’ it’s gonna be tough.”

Lil Wayne has shot almost 20 videos over the past couple of months in preparation for going to jail this week. Weezy was supposed to be sentenced Tuesday (March 2), but it was delayed due to a fire in the New York courthouse where he was set to be sentenced. Diddy said there will be a void with the electric entertainer gone.

“I think we gonna miss a certain energy that Wayne has,” Diddy said. “The beauty about it is, he’ll be back, and hopefully he’ll come back a better person.
